Recognizes outstanding local and regional journalism covering issues in science, public health, technology, or the environment. Each year, the award honors a single entry — be it a series or standalone piece — with a $5,000 prize.

Up to $25,000 prize for investigative journalism.

$10,000 prize for local, national and international reporting. Entrants must be 34-years-old or younger.

Goal of the program is to enhance public understanding through the news media of cultures, issues and trends in the Asia Pacific region. Participation in the Jefferson Fellowships provides working journalists with an opportunity to learn and report from cities across the Asia Pacific on key issues and developments taking place, sharing with audiences first-hand perspectives and new insights.

Up to $15,000 toward development of documentary short or feature

12-month fellowship at foreign bureau of major newspapers

6-month fellowship starting in March. Option to work remotely.

6-month fellowship at Grist starting in January (ability to work from Seattle, NYC, or remotely)
