Baserow 1.33: MCP Server, field level permissions, file input element and more

Baserow 1.33 release notes blog post banner

Welcome to Baserow 1.33!

Our new MCP Server brings the power of Large Language Models directly into Baserow, allowing you to manage your data using prompts. Whether you’re creating, reading, updating, or deleting records, you can now do it all through simple conversations with AI—no complex API knowledge required.

For Advanced and Enterprise users, we’re also rolling out field level permissions, giving you precise control over who can edit specific fields in your tables.

Let’s explore all the improvements and additions in this release:

MCP Server

Baserow MCP Server

Introducing MCP Server: Our seamless integration with Large Language Models.

We’ve integrated an MCP server directly into Baserow, making it easy to interact with Large Language Models (LLMs) like Claude or Cursor that support the protocol. Simply write a prompt to manage your data—no complex API setup needed.

Using MCP Server and prompts, you can:

  • Create: Add new records to your tables
  • Read: Query your data naturally without complex filters
  • Update: Modify existing records
  • Delete: Remove data with prompts

To set up an MCP server, click your Workspace name and select My SettingsMCP Server. Choose Create New Endpoint, add a name, and select your workspace. Click More Details and follow the instructions after selecting from the available LLMs: Claude, Cursor, or Windsurf.

Field level permissions

Baserow field-level permissions

Field level permissions allow you to control who can edit specific fields in your tables. This feature, part of our Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), is available for Advanced and Enterprise users.

To configure field permissions:

  1. Click on the field settings you want to modify
  2. In the “Edit field permissions” window, select who can edit the field:
  • Admins only: Restricted to workspace administrators
  • Builders and higher: Available to builders and administrators
  • Editors and higher: Default setting, allows editors, builders, and administrators
  • Nobody: Field becomes read-only for all users

This granular control helps protect sensitive data while maintaining collaborative workflows across your organization.

Default values for field types

Default values for field types

You can now set default values for Boolean and Number fields. This improvement streamlines data entry by automatically filling in fields with predefined values when you create new records.

Supported field types:

  • Boolean field: Set the default state to either true or false
  • Number field: Define a default numerical value

You can configure default values in the field settings panel when creating or editing fields.

Additional field types will support default values in future releases.

Link field one-to-many relationships

You can now limit Link-to-table fields to only allow one-to-many relationships between tables. This update gives you better control over data relationships and prevents accidental multiple links when your data model requires one-to-many connections.

Configure this setting in the link field’s properties when creating or editing a link-to-table field by unchecking the Allow multiple selection box.

Webhook triggers for related row updates

It’s now possible to set up webhooks that send notifications when linked row values change in related tables.

Configure webhook triggers by:

  1. Click the ••• menu beside the desired view or table
  2. Select Webhooks
  3. Click “Create webhook +”
  4. Check the Send me everything option

Webhooks will trigger on related row changes by default. To disable these notifications, select Let me select individual events and uncheck related rows in the table selection modal.

File input element for Application Builder

File input element for Application Builder

The new File input element enhances Baserow Application Builder by allowing users to upload files directly through the interface.

This feature enables easy collection of documents, images, and other files in your applications. Users can select and upload files from their computers while creating or updating rows.

To add this element, access the elements panel and select File input. You can customize file type restrictions and size limits through the element’s settings panel.

This is an Advanced and Enterprise plans feature.

Rating element for Application Builder

Rating element for Application Builder

We’ve introduced a Rating element that brings an intuitive way to collect and display ratings in your applications.

We’ve introduced 3 rating capabilities: a rating element for displaying scores, a rating input for forms to collect user feedback, and a rating column for tables — all designed to make rating functionality more versatile and user-friendly in your applications.

The rating element offers multiple icon styles:

  • Stars
  • Hearts
  • Smiles
  • Flags
  • Thumbs up

You can customize the number of rating points (1–10) and choose the color and icon style that best fits your application’s needs.

To add a rating element, access the elements panel and select Rating.

Other features:

  • Added support for arrays in query parameter validation
  • Added exclude_count API parameter to optimize pagination by skipping row counts
  • Added is_empty and is_not_empty filters for lookup fields
